GateA1 (gatea1.net) is a personal blog, with no advertising and no commercial activity. This page explains, in plain words, what data is processed when you read it, why, and what your rights are.
Who is responsible for your data?
The author of the blog, Seb, on a personal basis. For any question or request about your data, please use the Contact page.
No cookies, no banner
This website sets no advertising, profiling or social media cookies, and no audience measurement cookies. That is why it does not show a consent banner.
The only possible cookies are technical WordPress cookies:
- Comments: if you tick the box provided when leaving a comment, your name, email address and website are remembered in your browser so you don’t have to type them again. These cookies expire after one year.
- Login: they only concern people with an administration account on the site, which means me.
Visit statistics
To know which articles are read and where visitors come from, I use Koko Analytics, a WordPress plugin configured without cookies. It counts page views and referring websites. The data stays in the website’s own database and is not sent to any third-party service.
These statistics are only used to follow how much the blog is read. They are not used to identify you, profile you or show you advertising, and they are shared with no one. They rely on my legitimate interest in knowing whether the blog is read.
Comments
When you leave a comment, I receive the information from the form (name, email address, optional website, text), as well as your IP address and your browser’s user agent. Your email address is never published.
- Anti-spam (Akismet): comments are checked by Akismet, the anti-spam service of Automattic, based in the United States. For this, it receives the comment content, IP address, user agent, name and email address.
No avatar service is used: GateA1 does not send your email address, even in anonymised form, to Gravatar.
Published comments and their metadata are kept as long as the article is online. This also allows your next comments to be approved automatically. You can ask for a comment to be deleted at any time.
Contact form
The information entered in the contact form (name, email address, message) is sent to me by email, only so I can reply. It is not published, reused or passed on to anyone else, and I keep it for the duration of our exchange.
Content embedded from other websites
Some articles may include content from other websites, such as YouTube videos. This content behaves as if you were visiting the original website directly: it may collect data, set cookies or track your interaction with the content, especially if you are logged in there. This processing is covered by the privacy policy of those websites.
Hosting
The website, its database and its statistics are hosted by O2switch, in France. Their contact details are listed in the legal notice.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you can ask to access the data concerning you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict its use, object to it, or receive a copy of it. Just write to me through the Contact page.
If you believe your data is not being handled properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Authority (Belgium), or with the authority of your country of residence.
