Avelo Airlines Takes Flight in Delaware: Bringing Affordable Air Travel to the First State

Delaware has long been known as the First State, and now, on February 1st, 2023, it can add another first to its list – becoming the newest destination for Avelo Airlines. Avelo, which start to make itself a name is now making its way to Dellaware with its newest base of operations located at Wilmington International Airport (ILG).

For Delawareans, this is a big deal. In 2022, Frontier Airlines canceled all its services to Wilmington, leaving the state without any commercial airline service. That all changed with the arrival of Avelo, which is bringing its unique brand of low-cost, no-frills air travel to the state.

The inaugural flight of Avelo from Wilmington was to Orlando International Airport (MCO) and it was no ordinary, Jeb Brooks, a well-known US aviation geek Youtuber, was on board and gave the flight a JebScore of 10. This speaks to the high level of excitement and anticipation surrounding the arrival of Avelo in Delaware.

Avelo has a fleet of 10 Boeing 737-700 and 737 800 aircraft and operates two networks, one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast, with no connections between them. The company is now basing one Boeing Next-Generation (NG) 737-700 at ILG and has hired approximately 50 part-time and full-time employees to work at the airport. These employees include airport customer service representatives, aircraft technical operations and maintenance personnel, flight attendants, pilots, and supervisors. With its focus on low-cost travel, Avelo is sure to become a popular choice for Delawareans looking to travel to and from the state.

In addition to its flights to Orlando, Avelo will also be offering flights to Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers (RSW), Tampa (TPA), and West Palm Beach (PBI). This means that Delawareans will now have access to five major Florida destinations without having to make the long drive or take multiple flights to get there.

Avelo is already considering adding a second 737 to its fleet later this year, which would further solidify its presence in Delaware and provide even more travel options for residents of the state.

The arrival of Avelo Airlines in Delaware is a game-changer for the state. With its low-cost, no-frills approach to air travel, Avelo is making it easier and more affordable for Delawareans to travel, both within the state and beyond. The company’s inaugural flight to Orlando was a success, and the addition of more flights to Florida destinations will only further boost its popularity in Delaware.

Hopefully Avelo Airlines won’t act as Frontier airlines and will create a sustainable offer of destination from Willmington.
